Community policing plays an integral role in the law enforcement services we provide throughout Orange County. The many programs where you'll find us interacting with our residents include, Business Watch, Childhood Watch, Neighborhood Watch, Community Preparedness Academy, Teen Academy, Exploring, Child Safety Seat Inspections, Child Fingerprinting Services, Samantha's Pride and Vacation Home Checks. Below is another example of our efforts in community policing.

From the City of San Juan Capistrano news release:

"Roughly two dozen Orange County Sheriff’s deputies sporting official garb and bicycle gear will hit San Juan Capistrano streets, trails and downtown area Friday in an effort to polish their bicycle skills and patrol city streets.

The 6 to 10 p.m. stint in town is part of the Orange County Sheriff’s South Operations bicycle team’s quarterly training. The team, which is made up of deputies from San Clemente to Lake Forest and everywhere in between – hits different cities every few months on mountain-style bikes to show a presence in town while they tackle hilly terrain, flat services, open space and areas difficult for vehicles to travel.

...

Lt. Mike Betzler, chief of San Juan Capistrano Police Services, said the bike patrol is a “win-win” for the department and community."
